Become the 20th Labor Organization to Endorse Gina Raimondo for Governor
CRANSTON – The Rhode Island Electrical Association voted unanimously to become the 20th labor organization to back Gina Raimondo for governor. Representing over 2,500 members and retirees from seven different locals, they are supporting Gina as the candidate who has the right approach to economic development and who will create good jobs.
“Gina will be a governor who grows our economy in a way that helps everyone,” said Business Manager Steve Murphy. “She has a clear strategy for getting people back to work and rebuilding the middle class. In contrast, her Republican opponent just offers more of the same failed economic approach that got us into this mess. And he opposes raising the minimum wage and wants to make Rhode Island a so-called “right-to-work” state that would hurt working families. That’s not what we need to turn our state around.”
“I appreciate the support and confidence of the men and women of the Electrical Association,” said Gina. “I will be a governor who gets people back to work and my focus will be on making sure that we are creating good jobs that allow Rhode Islanders to support a family and get ahead. Rhode Island has everything it needs for a comeback and I will make sure we are building on our strengths to grow our economy.”
Other labor organizations that have endorsed Gina include the Bricklayers' and Allied Craftsmen Local 3, Ironworkers' Local 37, Plumbers' & Pipefitters' Local 51, Plasterers' and Cement Masons' Local 40, Roofers' and Waterproofers' Local Union No. 33, Sprinkler Fitters Local 669, Operating Engineers' Local 57, Sheet Metal Workers Local 17, United Steelworkers Local 12431, Elevator Constructors Local 39, United Food and Commercial Workers Local 328, SEIU 1199 NE, IUPAT District Council 11, IBEW Local 99, 32BJ SEIU, Carpenters Local 94, the Electrical Association, Rhode Island Laborers' District Council, Rhode Island Building & Construction Trades Council.
